I'll be brief. If you plan on using it for occasional supplement heat, or ambiance, I would buy the best you can of the recommendations you see here. If you are planning on say 1 ton, just get some 100% white pine, or Douglas fir. get the best you can afford and save yourself the grief. Don't buy junk. LaCrete is an all around good pellet, IMO. Another vote for MWP here. They are a good local NE product, very consistent, and the nice thing is they are available at many stores, big and small. At various times and locations, I have seen them at TSC, Home Depot, Lowes, as well as most local pellet shops. Hopefully you can find some. Are you aware of any pellet shops in your area that may have a wider selection, or are box stores your only option?
I've used green supremes before. They were ok. Just ok. They burned, no jams. more ash than usual but I am extremely meticulous with the stove cleanings and often. I think that helped.
Its a good point he makes. Meticulous in cleaning, so nothing really builds up. As for the difference in BTU's/lb of this and an expensive fir pellet? Is there really that much of a difference (in BTU's) when you factor in the cleanliness (or not so cleanliness) of the stove? If the stove is filthy, I dont think its even worth buying a high BTU pellet. Winter is coming.
