Dang, walk by those at Home Depot all the time. They look well made. Think they’re using a windshield washer pump tho.
There’s a store in Bridgeport that used to sell them.

That's slow enough that I would do a lot more splitting with a splitting axe and maul just to keep the frustration level down.

I just looked at one at united rentals. They sell there used equipment at the end of the year. “3200$“ there out of there minds. have to operate it with 2 hands and super slow like watching paint dry. I passed on it.

Wow, I think my cheap lil electric splitter is faster than that!
That was hard to even watch :picard:
Might be a good splitter for people that need extra time to make sure their digits are out of the road!

That explains why ive never seen one. Lowe's guy here. Boycotted Depot years back. In Wallingford they are directly across the street from each other.

You have a lot of Stihl's, so you're an expert on equipment that runs slow... an attempt at humor. [IMG]

Good grief! That old home brewed monster I got for $ 50.00 is faster than that Baretto splitter. $3200.00, they're outta their minds.

    It is slow...however...

If the second cycle times that were listed for the two models are correct, then those are pretty standard times for hydraulics in the "lower" price range. I think people are just getting too used to seeing the 10-15k Wolfe Ridges, Eastonmades, Timberwolf's, Bilt-Rites, etc. They forget what a normal hydraulic system looks like that isn't the price of a 5 normal splitters. I've run several "homeowner" type hydraulic splitters over the years, and I've always been underwhelmed and found them super slow.

Makes me really appreciate my 2.5 second cycle tine SuperSplitter that cost $2,500 new

Cycle time on my splitter is listed as 12 seconds for a full cycle. It honestly seems faster than that; next time splitting I am going to time it just for the heck of it.
99%of the time it does not run a full stroke. Retract just enough to get a log in and then cycle just until it splits. Straight grain wood usually pops pretty quick, and the stroke is often just a few inches out and back.

No way the time is anywhere close to that SuperSplitter.

Those engineers are crafty! They must have designed the splitter specifically for rentals. The slower it is, the longer you’ll need to rent it for. ; )

I bought my Speeco splittter back in 1999 and I don't recall reading what the cycle time is. Do you measure the cycle time from fully retracted to fully extended and back again? Would this be under load, i.e. splitting a piece of wood?

They are definitely well made, but they are designed horribly, more than likely by someone that haven't really split wood ever.

Like this one a guy on the Ariens gt group made. Great work on everything, but horrible execution. Screenshot_20221218-103121~2.png Screenshot_20221218-103143~2.png

I asked the guy that made this if he ever splits wood with it. He gave me an answer that told me he was lying. I'm sure it works, but it would be a PITA to actually operate for more than a couple pieces at a time.
