These guys were the other side of the street in Chicago, just slightly later than Butterfield/Bloomfield, I played the grooves off of this album. It was a special time in my life. SS2.jpg

Some bands sound fabulous live but for some reason that doesn't translate to recording. Others, it just works. Perhaps it's the music, or the recording methods and techniques I don't know.. Kenny Wayne Shepard is an example. He is fabulous live, but his recordings... meh.. oh well. ...maybe I'm just not cranking it up enough. :smoke:

Daughter had a snow day from school today so I'm just playing some mellow stuff here. Just got done listening to some Cat Stevens. How about this for some memories!

I've got tickets for these guys in March, and Grand Funk is opening.. not sure how much of either is the original crew.

Saw the Guess Who several times when they were just starting out at small settings in Buffalo and Niagara Falls. They were "boppin" over the boarder doing gigs there. I saw them once at a small place called Hard Rock Quarry. I was rockin down front about the 4th row from the stage. Everything was going great until about halfway through "American Woman", their recent big hit. Burton drapped himself in an American flag while he was singing and at one point started to rub it through his crotch like a wash rag. All of a sudden over the top of me from behind comes a deluge of full beer cans and bottles and such at the group. Randy takes a full can right in the head. Big security/bouncer/biker gang type dudes dive into the crowd off the stage and start pounding out the first 1-3 rows of folks to turn the crowd. I sure as hell turned and got the **** out of there. Needless to say the concert was over. It was ironic that at that time, Americans were burning flags all over in protest of the war and stuff. Many folks in the crowd probably agreed with most everything in his song. However, they were not going to stand by and let a Canadian disgrace "Old Glory" that way. Yes, listening to the Guess Who always brings back those high school memories!

People that lived in America may have been burning flags, but I don't think there were any true Americans burning flags.
I hated picking up a newspaper back then to see what was being cried about....

Kinda surprised the biker security didn't garb him and throw him out!
