I like a few songs, and I like his style, but outside of a "Born in the USA" and one or two others.. he's not the super star he's made out to be.

Just got in from the shop a few minutes ago and was listening to Hank Williams III. Before that was Johnny Cash. Both on CD, but I'm happy to say I have a lot of Cash on vinyl.

Took a little trip into Cambridge Mass with my wife, son and daughter in law. The kids live near there and I wanted to visit this famous record store they talk about. so.. we took a little trip, had lunch at this fabulous asian restaurant called Thelonious Monkfish, and then bought some records.

This is one of the albums I bought. I kinda missed it the first time around, back in 68, as their 2nd album was such a huge hit. But of course when I got this home and played it, I remembered most of them. This album rocks, as much as the cover art sucks.

Hope that album cover doesn't give nightmares! A tad bit creepy, no?

It is amazingly creepy! ...too bad too, because the rest of the album is so incredibly excellent. This was when Al Kooper was a big part of this band and it is a masterpiece. The horns, guitar and recording techniques are topm notch.

I hate to sound like and old man, but...The music really was on a different level back then.

Wow, I thought I was in the minority on this but I guess not. Like Steve, I like a few songs on the radio but I dont think I ever bought an album-maybe Born In the USA-no, that was my brothers album.

One of my brothers saw him at the old Boston Garden back in the day when he put on very long shows. He said it actually got boring. I am not taking away hos talent but I just never got the super star status he has.

Being as close to Philly and South Jersey as I am, everyone around here went bonkers over him. He was thought of as a local hero and superstar. I just never got it.

I like some of the stuff he's less known for.

    I loved the Seeger Sessions.

I also think his album Tunnel of Love had 2 good songs. ...but SuperMegaStar status.. meh.. I don't think so, but that's just me.

    This one's good.

I am a fan of Bruce's music, mostly his earlier stuff though, stuff before Born in the USA. I actually do not really even like the Born In USA album to be honest
One of his best albums is Born to Run....

This one was another great find. I heard Bromberg at Tom Rush's 50th reunion at Symphony Hall in Boston a couple years ago. Bromberg stole the show.

Here's one I bought, thinking "oh, these guys get a lot of airplay and I should have it in my collection". I still don't like it. Lot's of pyrotechnics but nothing that works for me.
He does Mr. BoJangles better than anyone I've ever seen or heard. Pure mix of blues, country and folk. He is a master guitarist and on more albums as a recording musician than can be counted. I guess his primary income has actually been as a studio musician over his career, but he is a fabulous performer. I''ve heard it put, he is a "musicians musician".

Many studio session guys and gals have some great talent. If I recall correctly this band originally was made up of all studio musicians and they brought in some hired guns for vocals on the album. I got to see them at The Paradise way back in the day after their 2nd album (visions of excess) for a fantastic show. And no, none of the "guns" were at the show.

These 2 has Michael Stipe from REM on vocals

    Jack Bruce on this one

Wow Will, I'm impressed! We must be brothers somehow, we seem to have the same "music DNA".
