I love raising cattle. It's a good release from the real world. I guess the only thing I like better than producing 'em is eatin 'em!! :grizz: And I've been in your neck of the woods before - would say it's pretty good cattle country.

Yep.......normally we have mild winters.....and not too dry in the mid summers. I'm hoping to be able to sell my little herd in a couple or three years and buy a nice repossessed double wide for my daughter. If I can manage to do that so her and Jon never have a house payment......I'll just start over with a few nice heifers again.

Probably a little over the top as far as muff mods go but, I always run a spark arrestor and that helps keep the noise level down some. Thanks

Family 1st - what it's all about. Maybe, too, you can get those cattle sold at these crazy prices and then buy back after things cool off a bit. It's crazy what they are sellin for these days. Who'd think a fresh weaned calf would bring upwards of $1,000 bill? Wild....

I paid too much for the ones I have.......but they are nice looking Angus. I can invest a little here and there this way.....then sell all at once.

I saw a 4 year old cow, a few months bred, with a calf in tow bring nearly 3000.00 a few weeks ago. That was just crazy. That was when the idea hit me.......I'll wait till they calve, and are bred back before I sell.

Sold some 3day old holstein bulls for 400 at the first of the year. Wasn't that long ago when you couldn't give them away.

Finally got around to messing with this red clunker saw. Maybe I'll get to see if it runs this week.

Yea seems like not long ago the local dairy farm would tell me to come get them for $50/hd if I thought i could keep 'em alive. I want to get a few for my boys to bottle feed but man o man are they high now. And if they don't make it - double ouch!!

Even if you AI you need a clean up bull to catch the open ones from the AI attempt.

The big money is in flushing eggs and implanting embryos.

That's true, and when the neighbor runs several good bulls and lets you use one or 2 for 30 days to clean up that's the best setup a man can ask for! (Usually swap a few rolls of hay for that service)... I've never gotten into the flushing and implanting world, though.

I got three barren Holsteins late last summer. They were cheap......and in poor condition. I thought I was gonna lose one.

Now they are at about 800lb.......and will be butchered this summer.

:DWe plan on watching some bovine on the grill this afternoon. A friend raised a few cows and we split the processing, it was great to have a freezer full of beef.
