Ditto. To a tee. I split today. Wife's Xmas party for work tonight. Suit and tie affair. Not exactly my cup of tea. Yea...... Tomorrow she pays me back for agreeing to go by helping stack!

If all you have is the ATV, start from the back of the tree, and work your way to the butt end, cutting the tree into firewood rounds as you go. With those limbs, it is not going to roll on you, just continue to drop downward with each cut.

I had a bad one yesterday. It was an uprooted spruce from the storm, but laying on two hemlocks that were 90 degrees to it. It was bad because if I cut the leaning Spruce from its root ball, it would have slid down the hemlocks right into me...and of course the whole Spruce was under tension making it go boom all at once!

I ended up cutting underneath the tree with a notch, kind of like I was felling it, then made a bit of a back cut on one side, then went to the other side which was AWAY from where the tree would have slid. I cut aways, but just enough so I could take the tension off. But I also got a skidder and knew I could snap the rest of the hinge (2") off while I was on the skidder. So I hooked on to it, and separated that way from the lean and its root ball. So it is with messes like that, that I appreciate power, it does make things safer.

Oh the things we get into huh? Best of luck with that tree.

Thanks for the advice. I'll be back at it on Monday . I started making rounds but was worried abut it rolling. Also when I get to the butt, my 18 inch bar aint 20171201_122108.jpg gonna make it!

Oh make no doubt about it brother, that is not a tree to take lightly, just don't be scared of it either. Both will kill a man!

Myself, I cut wood professionally and I have never used a bar over 18 inches. Too much filing. I have cut some monster trees with an 18 inch bar though.

Bathing the kid, eating some leftovers, then bottling 5 gallons of our Homebrew coffee Porter (might drink one or two others during.)

Tomorrow, got a line on some oak.

Spent all day cutting white ash and white oak tops left over after logging!!! Great weather too with sunny skies and a high of 56F.

Worked a lot. Still on the hourly plan at the new job, so when a double is offered, damm sure I'll take it! Bring on the OT. Relaxing in the garage currently with an adult beverage and a stogie now that baby's in bed. Think I'll watch a movie with Mrs Papi and thing 1 shortly, probably fall asleep halfway through, but eff it.

Tomorrow is a work day, just not paid in dollars. Christmas tree purchase from the VFW in the morning, then siding repair at the apartments before snow hits, and I need to install a new flood light on the back of the home place.

Thanks for asking, is this what you were looking for? :D

Worked today, got a gift card and coupon for bevmo (which i dont care for) but got a case of pale ale for free. Wife stacked half cord while i splittonight. Working on cutting more wood tomorrow as long as its not pouring. Got to wake up early and load up, hook up the trailer.

On a side note im blowing off the company party this year. No kiddos, and having three id rather do stuff with them than hang with coworkers and have a sitter.
