Well I went and split a few pieces Sunday arvo and tested with my moisture meter. A round from near the stump of a tree that fell over 6 years ago. Further up the same tree. This wood was from a tree that was hung up on others and 4' to 5' off the ground. It's the pre split stuff that was in the back of my trailer in the earlier picture. It should be good for next winter, and I know a bloke just starting out that needs it more than me so I will be giving it to him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The black dolly / hand-truck has 13" tyres. The red dolly has 10" tyres. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
13" is a lot better on rough ground and going over sticks and small branches but it requires more effort to lean back when it has 4 x 20" rounds loaded on it as the fulcrum is further from the load due to the larger wheels. I will be taking the big wheel dolly out bush from now on, I will only bother with the 10" if I have a helper with me therefore I will take both. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That makes sense . When I bought mine many years ago , biggest wheels I could find were 10" 15 in on this puppy Milwaukee 1000 lb. Capacity P-Handle Truck-DC49977 - The Home Depot
I have taken the week of work and I spent the first day of my holiday at dads pruning some trees and removing 2 gum trees. I got to tryout my new climbers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I bought a Harbor Freight cheapy with 13" tires for $40 with coupon. It's done everything I have asked it to. The property I hoard on is full of boulders. Much better than a wheel barrow, plus you don't have to pick up the rounds. I really need a winch...
Nice job man , you took care of those puppies Looks like ya got a lot of firewood out of them too :stacke:
$40 Those are good sized tires , how are they holding up ? Some of the china tires are crap , I ended up replacing all the ones on my 4 wheel buggy with no flat tires
Actually there is some good wood there but it's going to be hard to split. Dad lined up on one of the medium sized pieces with my old maul and it just bounced of the bloody thing. After watching him bounce of of it about 6 times I called it, and loaded the big rounds on the trailer to take to his wood pile. I guess I will have to go down there another day with my Fiskars isocore and some wedges. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ah leoht trees that she'd bark not leaves.. most will never understand that red gum is so tough termites can't eat it..... but dry it is great firewood .... and they think America has termites... the termite in northern australia look like cactus in our southwest dessart
The tires are holding up well. They don't look like the best quality, time will tell. I have moved two refrigerators and rounds from two red oaks, both over 75' tall. The welds look good. The lifting blade doesn't bend with weight on it.
It has literally been months since I got to run a saw because it has been to hot and dry here, and the risk of starting a wildfire has just been to great. Then yesterday we got a little rain and the forecast for today was 22c/72F so I asked my boss if I could have a day off. So I finally got some trigger time in today. I got up early hooked up my trailer and headed up to the local service station to get some fuel, then headed back passed home and in to the bush. As I arrived at the wood cutting area I found the forestry guys there with a dozer smoothing out the road a little. I watched the bloke in the dozer and talked to his workmate for a while then got to work and bucked up 3 trees. It was overcast and cool perfect conditions for hoarding. When I was almost loaded I called my farther to see if he wanted some wood, well he didn't think he needed anymore but I thought better and talked him in to coming out, after all he only had to drive 3 miles. So I fuelled up my saw again and bucked up another couple of trees that were right beside the road, as I finished and was packing my saw away in the truck dad arrived and we loaded his trailer. The sun had come out by time we finished and I was glad to get the chaps off, back to shorts and work boots. I grabbed a can of coke from the fridge in the back of my truck for the drive home and headed off. Another good day for hoarding. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
"fridge in the back of my truck"....you're just going to drop that with no picture as proof? Inquiring minds want to know...
