See, Overkill? The moat would even give an excuse to install an outdoor wood boiler, to which you can hook up a heat exchanger to heat said moat water and keep that pack of alligators warm, hungry and protective. I'll even make you a "stay of my lawn" sign, which the neighbor kids can ignore to their own detriment.

We made more progress yesterday, despite the crappy forecast.....

Poured the flagstone staircase down to the patio area as well as the winding backyard sidewalk, they're coming today to powerwash the release agent off. Can't wait to see it when washed!

We had some leftover concrete, so we decided to put a 5" sub-layer under where the fireplace/pizza oven will reside. The fireplace/pizza oven will be on its own smaller pad so the main patio pad can move some. We have a very solid base of undisturbed clay and around 6" of stone underneath the fireplace pad.

Also got some more accomplished on getting the yard graded back to where it needs to be!!

This is a fantastic project moving along nicely. The stampcrete looks good. Just curious if they are going to cut control joints in the walkway?

We had stampcrete walks and patios at my last job that lasted 10 years until we had some cracking which we believe was caused from settling soil. It was sealed when needed with anti slip grit mixed in and looked great after refinishing.

So what is the design of the oven? Is the keyhole pit going to be part of this? Your hard work saving up for this will surely be rewarded with good food, friends and family. The cook doesn't rest till the troops are fed though.

I'll be looking forward to the progress and how the oven will run for ya.

Yes we cut relief joints in the sidewalk, and reinforced with steel. There's a solid 8-10" of stone and also a perforated piple under the entire sidwalk, all sloped to the rear of my property where it will drain. I'll still have the keyhole pit off to the side of the patio, I'll be moving it closer once we get the grade done.

And as for the fireplace/pizza oven, I'll be getting with you soon to figure out if I wanna do a homemade refractory or use fire brick and build a Pompeiian style oven.....still finalizing that whole design in my head....
