Pizza night was a success, I'm gonna love this oven!! We cooked 7 pizzas, and they all turned out great. Had a blast with great friends and family, I can see many nights of enjoyment to come....

Awesome looking pizza. I have heard of andirons before but I am not sure how they are used. You mentioned spit hooks on the uprights. Do you hang a spit with food on it there and then just rotate the spit to cook evenly?

Spent the morning taking that stubby pizza peel and installing it onto an 18th century peel handle. One of the rams horn was broken off, forged a new one and attached it to the handle.

This is more suitable because of its long length to to get into the oven. Might try it out some night this week....

I have two other antique peels I'll be converting, one will become the brass broom/scraper for the oven.

    Some pics....

Here's two of the antique peels with their original paddles cut off. The paddles were in horrible shape, and as much as I hated to cut them off, I want to use these handles and give them a new life. They will be properly modified to period specs...

Peel mount "clamps" the paddle from both sides, cold-riveted on....top of paddle.....

 Beautiful craftsmanship. Can’t wait to see that stonework finished on the outside. Really a project to be proud of and a centerpiece for entertainment. Nice work our friend!

Thanks guys, much of the credit for this fireplace/oven goes to the amazing stone Mason I have working on it with me. He is taking our vision and helping us achieve it. We came up with this sideways arch oven design and it seems to work very well. There's still some insulating to do and I'm waiting on the flue clays for the fireplace. Next week or two we will be pouring the countertop next to the oven. The complex stuff is done, that was the real issue.
