Let's do it Brother...I will blame 2017 on Barcroftb! But I will say I walked into a party where I knew no one and walked out with a bunch of folks that I will consider friends for the rest of my life!
Good old Welch Pump. We have a trailer full of those at work that are no longer used. Anything we use now is direct drive or oil free. Those things will run forever and just keep on sucking.
I have a 2 stage Edward's and a bunch of Gasts (can drive a deaf person nuts) also. I bought the Welch new a couple of years ago (still hard to sit down) because if you want to run one 24/7 they are so cool running and quiet. Like blowing bubbles with a straw. Why did you guys pull the Welch's in favor of the direct drives ?
Most of the Welch pumps were older and had countless hours. When the lab I work in closed down the particle accelerator end of things there was not the need for as many pumps as there once was , most of the beam-lines and a lot of the experiments that were under vacuum no longer exist so with that most of the Welch pumps went into storage. Most of the experiments we have going on now are new so with that they opted for new pumps as well. Also many are concerned about oil so those have dry scroll pumps. Almost everything has a rough pump and a turbo pump in the system
Yes sir , not a cheap piece of equipment. Latest thing is mag-lev pumps , the rotor floats in a magnetic field to eliminate bearings and the drag from them. They do actually have a bearing but it is only used when starting up and shutting down but when running it's just floating in thin air.
Price one out once... I just got a rude awakening from the Hoffman & Lamson blower rep (GardnerDenver) here recently...he thought he could save us some money by upgrading, but put pencil to paper, the ROI just wasn't there (in our case) so buh bye. Was interesting convo though...he said the same thing about things going to the mag bearings...he said similar/same as commercial jet engines...cool.
