last night before bed noted pressure at the faucet decayed and the foot valve popped open right at pump cut in. This morning pressure was fine in shower but I heard the pump cycle with no water use. Watched pressure slowly decay to cut in with no water flow sound so I shut it down to head to work. This is a deep water pump (6yo) with a relatively new tank 1.5yo I'll check the tank bladder and update when I get home but I think this is a foot valve leaking or a leak from pump to house
How deep? Or more importantly, what's the drop pipe made of? The foot valve may be leaking but more often there is a hole in the drop pipe. Of course, you can isolate the line until you find the bad section and if it's down the hole then you need to pull it up regardless.
Receiver tank checked good at 28psi. Pump is ~120' deep in 60-70' of water black poly pipe continuous down to pump. Checked the elbows at the casing head and under ground actually caused a small leak as I was digging around the line and could hear air in rushing. I guess the pump is coming up
used to get 10-15 years on a pump - course nothing made that way any more. sure your tank isn't water logged? badders go bad tank itself good
Running one at work going on 17 years that runs about 52,000 gals a day!! This runs with no pressure tank that the wellman tells me is bad on them! Gary
Found the culprit small hole on the barbed adapter into the foot valve of course the remainder of the fitting crumbled but I bought new check valve. You'd think lowes would carry an 1-1/4" close nipple but no so sent another small piece of galvanized down hole to fail in 10yrs
I had a similar issue, but my check valve had failed. Thankfully I did not have to pull my pump as it is some 200 feet down. I have also had an elbow clamp get loose and would allow water to drop between the check valve and water level causing a similiar issue; again thankfully did not have to pull the pump. So far it has been down there 23 years with no issues, but it is only a matter of time now...
Sad to report the galvanized nipple I used to attach pump to foot valve failed last night- just 2yrs in service. This time below the foot the pump was running continuously and not building more than 30psi. Of course no one had an SS or brass nipple so another galvanized nipple is in took me 2.5 hrs including trip to ACE. Ordering an SS nipple from McMaster Tomorrow to stick in the shop for 2 years from now.
Sorry to hear that basod Still haven't decided yet on the final solution with our well. It'll cost me as much to (have someone) pull and replace the foot valve as it would to drop down a submersible. I already replaced the convertible jet pump and pressure tank, then when the issue wasn't resolved, pd $300 to have someone redo the non-leaking lines I installed, and turn the pressure from 40/60 to 30/50. Was a bit perturbed, but it is what it is. System still can't reach 60 psi as it should, but at least it will do 50 psi, and the pumps not running constantly.. YET
Its sad the quality of stuff that's available these days. Galvanized pipe and fittings are prime examples. You can tell that most of the stuff from china is junk just by looking at it. The casting is poor and the galvanizing is seems more painted on than hot dipped or electrically deposited. I've literally seen it chipping off. You'd think with improved processes and materials that quality would be improving. Its gotten to the point where I look for new old stock in hopes of getting something that will last. Edit: the galvanized couplers on my 440 ft. deep PVC well pipe were obviously failing when I replaced my pump/motor a few years back. I installed new SS couplers so we'll see.
