I do have a splitter - a Champion 34 ton hydro. I love it but I split 90% by hand for several reasons. I enjoy it, it is quieter for my family and my neighbors, less pollution, no fuel costs, and I'm really in no rush. Splitting is like meditation for me. :)

I save the splitter for nasties, crotches, and knotties usually....

Help is awesome. I have a neighbor coming today to learn how to split and he'll be taking away the wood he splits. I tend to hurt myself not because of the actual work but because I'm doing too many things and pushing myself past the line. I should take it easy more often...but when you have 3 cord of beautiful wood just waiting for you and blocking the side of your house, business has to be taken care of. Small bites. :)

    Hello again FHC, -305850561_20210802_141715_10132624_resized.jpg -306774082_20210814_171042_7057394_resized.jpg
A couple of you asked for a update so here are a few pics. It took quite some time to finish off the Oak. Never would have been able to do the knots, crotches and uglies without the help of a good neighbor and his splitter. Most is cut to 16" or less. Many of the rounds were much shorter but still heavy as heck. All said and done around 20 face cord + or -. Will leave it all uncovered till later this year then top cover over only

Taking pictures of your stacks soaking up the sun while you were in the pool?

If so, that's the way to do it.

For sure. Sun dried Oak! This weather is crazy. Couple of week ago there was so much rain that I had to take water out of the pool. Now it has been dry and in the upper 80's for a week with more heat on the way.

I agree with the thoughts that sometimes a machine is the way to go. I enjoy splitting by hand, but when I need to get a lot done, and I have help, and or I'm tired, the machine is well worth using!!
