Yes, understood. The 6 gauge is there...I see no need to fish another line. I planned on going to the 2 pole 30 amp breaker....thanks for the safety reminder!
Grounding the box...absolutely....I was planning on pigtailing a ground from the connection and screwing it to the box....As far as I know that is the right way to do it....but always open to learning.
A bonding screw(green) in the box is best, but wrapped around a cover screw and use the cover as the clamp is the old school way before that method came to be..... Metal box and cover of course.
The transfer switch will have the grounding screw (green) Going to head to Plumbing Supply house and get the switch, breaker, heater, pex fittings probably Thursday after work...fun fun fun.
I always have 2228 rubber tape and 33+ electrical tape in my bag for coax and split nuts. I like 33+ better than 88 because it is more stretchy even though you end up using more of it sometimes as a lot of my coax connectors used to be outside in the weather and I was making them waterproof. I'll put a layer of 33+ on first adhesive side out, then the rubber, then the 33+ the right way on bulky split nuts. . The first layer backwards is for the guy that might cut it apart some day down the road. That guy might be me.
How I was taught too...only using glass cloth tape...can't remember the specific tape name right now (edit) just looked it up...must be the 3M 27 Never tried the 2228, looks interesting...need to get some to try next time I get to the supply house
There's a 2228 and an 88 that is twice as wide ( don't remember the numbers and it might not be 3M ) that comes in handy sometimes too.
Got it done. Just wanted to say thank you to you guys for the advice. As usual, it took longer than I thought and cost more than I thought....but, I am proud of my work and it's done right and it's safe!
I never did an electric tank water heater before, but did that old small on demand unit...I am fine with carpentry, plumbing (I can sweat joints, but I LOVE PEX), and I am fine with most electrical...the only hitch I had was the disconnect box...it was bad...I know, simple thing and there isn't much to them...I took it back and they were amazed at how screwed up it was. I ended up going with wire nuts, had the right ones so it worked well I wrapped them in 3M-33 I think it is (That is great tape!!!)...looks good, it's safe, and more hot water than I will ever use. THANKS AGAIN!!!
