Do any of you burn walnut? The delivery I received a couple of weeks ago included a bunch of walnut. I didn't know what it was so I asked my dad. At first he didn't know. Once he found out it was walnut, he beside himself. He asked if the wood guy is crazy. Then went out to tell me that even walnut stumps are worth money.
Not all walnut stumps are worth anything besides firewood.Takes certain higher quality ones with wild figured grain,dont necessarily have to be the biggest ones either. Walnut is good stuff,I normally get a pickup load or so every year.Tops,branches,low quality smaller logs mainly.Plus any scrap I've accumulated from milling & roughing out short thick slabs/blocks for woodturning,other various craft projects.Any decent logs 12" -14" diameter or larger is too valuable to me for just firewood. Smells great when sawing,splitting,shaping,drying in the stacks or burning it. Splits easily,dries in 12 to 18 months (depending on your area,wind conditions,how humid your climate is etc).Gives good heat,some say it leaves lots of ash,but I never noticed that much really.
Burns great, there is so much of it up here that sawmills are interested unless it's huge and straight. Not as hot as locust, but burns low and long. Great for over night.
