The metal piece attached by a screw under the idle screw. What is it? What it’s purpose? Does it look like it’s in the proper position?
Tough to see in pictures but it looks like the throttle shaft lever that your idle screw rides against to set your idle and yes that is normal to find dust on the diaphragm it usually has a small hole in the metal cover to vent the pump and sawdust does find its way in there JB
idle screw cone needs make contact at some point to move the throttle plate off its seat. If it doesn’t at all, see if you loosen the shaft screw and adjust the mystery metal to where it will make contact and stay there after you re tighten the screw. If you can, tune the plate location so you’ve got idle screw adjustment for the length of the cone. You shouldn’t need all of it, but take advantage of the adjustment capabilities In that last picture it looks like you’ve got some mercy in the screw to use up still
Another question about the intake block? It’s been awhile since disassembly and I don’t remember orientation for the block. Which side faces cylinder A) or B)
Match impulse holes, cylinder and carb. Should be circle end against the carb and rectangle to the cylinder
That's your idle adjustment plate. And yea it won't be in contact with the screen if the choke is on....
Do y’all use an adhesive to keep the dang end gasket attached while trying to line up intake screws? That fried my nerve trying to keep that from falling off. Ffs I’m done for the day. I’ll see if it runs tomorrow.
Is it me or does this screen look like there's a bit of shmutz caked on there? Varnish from old fuel perhaps? Could use a soaking in some brake cleaner maybe?
It took a while but I got it sorted out. The throttle linkage was sticking, so I took it back apart and put it back together and had the same issue. I didn’t have the plastic piece that holds the throttle linkage and choke lever clipped all the way onto the housing. Than I didn’t have idle. The idle screw must have backed itself out. It took several turns in on idle screw to get it to idle. It runs and idles today, I’ll try cutting tomorrow.
