The USSC name is a genius marketing ploy by our "friends" in the far East. That's all I got to say about that....... Next topic:)

Well you sure got someone different than me...when I had the VZ stove I called to ask about mantel clearance, since I was putting it in the FP, and there was no clearance listed in the poor excuse for a manual...got no help at all! Finally just decided to try it and see what happens...it was fine, didn't even get warm.

    :rofl: :lol::thumbs:
The mantle...the stove actually worked pretty well after I tweaked the air intake holes a little (too large) it was the poor access to the blower in the back of the FP that lead to the VZ being sent down the road though...

Maybe? But I guess I don't know exactly what kind of oil that is either...

Sounds like clipper oil should be 10 wt. mineral oil...which should be fine for those motors.

That's what I 5hought the clipper oil would be ok. I was thinking mineral oil is thin. I think if I didn't use it all mineral oil is what's in an oil can I have. But not sure plus it's not exactly a precision applicator.

You can dip a toothpick in the oil to accurately place 1 drop...

Definitely try cleaning and lubing the existing motors/ bearings first. Pretty much everything I found would need to be a retrofit because of the USSC, bang bang hello kitty dealio.

And yes, every word of this particular post was double checked to show exactly as I intended.;)

Thank you for looking. It's really hard for me to believe that this motor is not sitting in a huge box somewhere sold by some retailer for $50 or less. I can make something work if it comes to that but this just seems crazy.

This is where the buy from a big company that supplies parts really hits home. Even if I had the later model where I had the central inlet on the stove for the set up I see online, it's crazy to pay $300 for it on this level stove! And why sell the whole housing with the shields and cages and outer cover. Why not just the motor.

    I hear you.

When I replaced the blower in my quadrafire, the replacement was stupid $$$. So I found sites that were selling the same thing, just not with the stove brand on it escalating the cost.

Last fall/ end of summer, I replaced the blower on a good friend's gas fireplace the same way. $100 and it was fixed in a couple of beers time. No more squealing blower.

I found an online store in Wisconsin, and one in Utah that sold blower kits that were the same thing, but not ridiculously overpriced. $100 isn't too bad, but 300-500 is stupid.

I kept my old blower in case I want to take it apart and clean/ replace bearings.

One thing to keep in mind, if it turns out that the motor windings are failed (unusual) you can find motors like those all over...I actually found some right off last night...but with a shorter shaft...so if need be, your rotor/shaft assembly could be swapped out into a new "motor" (windings) it would take a little research to make sure the shaft diameter is the same (just in hopes that the rotor would be the same size) and the bearing/housing assembly looks like things would interchange...that and a lil luck, it would work ;)

Or you could do like I did on my VZ...adapted a totally different blower/housing assembly to work on the stove...yes, I was too cheap to buy the one that was made for it :D (IIRC it was $100...think I found a "close enough" one NOS on ebay for $20)

Can't find anything like that light weight oil. Was at Walmart and now TSC. All kinds of liquid wrench special application oils. I also have PB blaster at the house. They do have 3n1 oil though:picard:

PB is pizz poor for "knock 'er loose" and even worse for lube...can't stand the stuff...have banned it from the shop at work...plus it smells terrible and the smell really lingers on your hands/etc!
I'd use a light ND motor oil before using PB.
    Try a local hardware store?

I googled what weight air tool oil is. A northern tool site was what it referenced but it said it was 5 weight hydro oil and called spindle oil. So I guess air tool oil is too thin??

Better than PB...but yeah, I'd sure try to find something closer to the right stuff...even if you have to order it online, you have time yet...
