That thing is looking good Beau, I can't wait to hear her running, props for saving another 1106 from the grave. They are dreadfully slow, but just imagine the stories that saw could tell, stories from likely before our fathers even knew our mothers. That's some cool nostalgia to me... I know, I'm a saw nerd...
Nothing weird there Brad - what I love best about these old saws is bringing them back to life. It's really fun to think about what they've been through and have seen. This saw (the blue parts at least!) were manufactured probably when my father was around 6-8 years old.
I like 'em slow. When I got my first 090G (for those unfamiliar with them, 2:1 gear reduction on an already slow saw) I joked with my buddy Joe that we were gonna cut some cookies, but we could time the cuts with a sun dial...
After 100% disassembly, all new bearings/seals/gaskets, and meticulous cleaning of each & every part I finally got this old boy back together this afternoon. I did my normal bit - fill the oil & fuel reservoirs and let it sit for 20-30 min to make sure there are no leaks. All clear, time to get down to business. It popped on the fourth pull, choke off, then it started on the fifth, but putted to a stop after a few seconds. Before proceeding I noticed fluid on the mat and flipped the saw up to find a pinhole in the bottom tank plate and fuel leaking out. I guess it was paper-thin, but holding, and shook loose when the action started. Disappointing, but not a big deal; I'll either patch it or just replace the plate. Either way, it was good to finally hear it roar to life!
