We looked at doing the same thing only in the shorter days of the year we don't get enough sunlight to charge the solar batteries. Everyone buys those solar lights for the driveways and Christmas but they don't charge up enough in the winter. Too much over cast.
It's holding up just fine but we do take it down during the winter months and any high wind events. During the winter we put out what I call the porch flag. We have a solar light at the top, during the summer/fall it gets enough sun that the light will stay on until morning or sunrise so we can fly the flag at night.
