Yes, that's exactly how I feel about the cutting and splitting! Besides, I'm not 30 no more! OR an EOD diver....
Doing it at your own pace is the secret to enjoying doing firewood. One of the nice things is that (for the most part) you can stop any time without issues.
If your luck is anything like mine now that you are stocked up you'll run across dozens of free ones around the corner.
EODMSgt how do you keep the covers atop your stacks without them blowing off? Your stacks are about as good as it gets, I've always thought that.
That does look good, and if I had as much acreage for storage as he does then I would probably think differently. For tarps on the unfinished stacks, I just use scrap lumber or limb wood that hasn't been cut yet. For the metal roofing on the finished stacks, I used pallets in the past but that was becoming a PITA with the stacks over 5' high (not as young as I used to be) so I switched to six concrete blocks per stack. We get wicked winds coming off Mt. Washington and I haven't had one of the metal roofing pieces even budge with the concrete blocks (there are 2 roofing pieces overlapped per stack so I can span the 12' length).
Probably! Although, I used to troll Craigslist a couple times a month and never saw then listed, (ever) for under $100.00 This guy I'm getting them from had about a 100 of them, and $50.00 for quick sale, he is selling them fast! I'm jumping on this horse while I can! But, you are probably right!
Going for 2 more totes today, was going Saturday but something came up and he's available today... This will be it, got no more room!
That is sweet looking. But that would drive me crazy...some of those roofs are turned the wrong way. I couldn't look at that every day without changing them. That's just my crazyness.
My Job is done! 13 totes, set up nice and space in the middle, turned the end ones and made a walk way in the middle. I'm whoooooped! If all is correct in the math and measurments, each tote will hold +- 1/3 cord. Stacked high I'm sure will give me the 1/3. So, this wood farm will give me 4 solid cord of wood. I'm happy, I used to get more here, but I'm not taking any risk with the new fence next to me. Here it is! Now I just gotta fill it all.
