Does your town have regulations for structures? If so, get a permit and do it to code or else get ready to defend yourself at some town meetings (ask me how I know). My woodshed was built with a permit and extended beyond code. If it’s permanent (should be, right?) a proper pole barn footing should be used. You could do concrete sonotubes and have your choice of lumber up from that (pt on concrete is encouraged and is the right thing to do). We went with posts. My old man has a 38 year old pole barn and the posts are still “ok.” Locust is awesome stuff and lasts a while, but be sure to anchor them since lifting is inevitable unless you’re below frost level.
