That is too bad. I looked at two used stoves on CL (the Hastings and the P43) and bought both. Heck, I didn't even look at the P43 before agreeing to buy it (for 1K I couldn't go wrong and haven't put a dime into it except the hopper extension). I guess I got lucky.

Oh wait, I just remembered before buying the Hastings I looked at a St. Croix Greenfield. It was in really good shape (as advertised) and burned well when they started it up for me, but I really wanted auto-start. The next day the Hastings showed up on CL for the same price.

However, you have a great point in using a seller that he has already had good luck with and most likely will give a warranty - that type of experience is priceless.

Be happy you didn't buy the Greenfield... it's a far better corn burner than a pellet burner. I bought a very nice used one and, after two season of trying to get it to provide heat, sold it to a farmer with a big supply of corn.

That stove had a corn pot and a pellet pot... just never worked right.
