What is that handle on the left? Is that a shifter? And seems that it would be harder to hand shift than to use your foot...unless you have giant boots on or something

Just picked up this one... 1986 Honda. It runs, and it's in decent shape.
So far I've got about $0 invested in it. :D

You can't go wrong with zero dollars invested for a running quad from a good manufacturer. :)

image.jpg I really like my Homda Rubicon that I bought new in 2007. I plow with is and I use a Polar swivel/dump atv trailer with it. I chose the Rubicon since it had a fluid 5 speed transmission that can be used in many different modes including manual shift, automatic, automatic with traction control, and automatic low. It has a engine brake that will keep my speed at no more that 4 mph even on the steepest hills. Honda is known for making a good engine also. I've put heated grips on it and I want to install a 2" lift to make it easier to ride on the lake I live on in the winter. The one thing I wish it had would be fuel injection but I can do without. I only paid $5500 for this machine brand new. I see what some are paying nowadays for their atvs and I jist shake my head! I just talked to a guy on the lake the other day who had payed $16,000 plus tax for his new CanAm tracked machine. Yowza!!!

How did you swing that? I really doubt I could get a break like that.

The price of quads has gone up substantially in the last few years. Same with sleds, trucks, cars, inboard ski and wakeboard boats especially are ridiculous in their price increases..... But somehow our wages don't keep up with the increase in costs.

That is a sharp looking unit. What is the displacement? From conversations with friends from Maine, they've told me that you want a 500 when it comes to snow plowing with an ATV. This is on my wish list for this year. I'm also wondering how large a trailer I can expect to tow. I have a manual dump trailer that I can tow with my riding lawn mower that is rather large.

image.jpg It's a 500 cc. It's not known for a lot of power but it can be easily bumped up some with a K&N filter and a different exhaust. I run a 60" plow blade and It has enough power for it and I plpw my 800' driveway all winter long. Another thing to consider is that the machine isn't really big like some I've sat on. They seemed so big that they'd be hard to maneuver in some places. I also run a Warn 3500 lb winch with a Blue Steel synthetic rope. It works good with the plow since a steel rope will fray fast running a plow. As far as a trailer, look up the Polars. They are nice! Mine is the 1500 lb single axle model. I know the atv isn't rated to tow 1500 pounds but with the optional rail kit for my trailer I can load it up with some heavy wood and take it easy going home with it. The picture of the trailer here is not mine but I have mine set up the same way and it is a Polar trailer. image.jpg

They all can pull way more than you should. You will burn up your clutches fast towing loads.

Anything a mower can pull so can an atv

My 300trx had a winch mounted to the front rack similar. Pretty sure it was burnt up cause i couldnt get it to work. It was just 2 metal plates bolted around the rack.I pulled all that mess off. Dont need a winch anyway.

Nice rig. I love my Rubicon. Lots of torque, which is what you need for workhorse duty. I've pulled 1500 lbs out of the woods many times on a 4x8 trailer. The transmission on them really is amazing.

I will try to remember tomorrow. I think it's just a plate bolted to the rack.

I think its all the accessories on quads now: EFI, aftermarket shocks, tires, snazzy wheels, racks...ect. The factory does a pretty good job of acessoriszing them. And of course the margins. ; )
