Yeah that's where I differ with some, the new stuff is more efficient, but what you gain there you lose on the back end with shorter life...and the other issue is that everything has a control board...when those go they generally can't be fixed, just replaced, and every model has a different one, so none in stock locally, have to be ordered...the older stuff is pretty simple and can usually be repaired with off the shelf parts from the local supply house or repair man n a van...
If you go this route eventually (and you absolutely KNOW that it won't go when you have a nice long stretch of weather in the 70's), look at any rebates/incentives that your electric utility and/or state may have available. Additionally, if you get one on the list for the Fed Gov, there is a tax credit available. Neither of them may be whole lot, but every bit helps.
Agreed! We had it serviced few years back minor repair I think was the capacitor. The service tech seemed extremely knowledgeable, said they don't make them like this any more. This thing is a tank and will run forever but not saving you anything on the electric bill for sure. It's a Lennox brand FYI
