They will be planted to become Walnut lumber someday. I won't see it, but someone in a couple generations will be happy that I planted them. I'm just trying to leave the planet a little better than I found it.

Although I may grab some out to crack and eat...

I blocked one in years ago for a guy with way too much energy ;) Big old row house in a city zone. I.E. not worth anything. He dug most of the basement out by hand. He had a backhoe but because the houses are so close together the only use was to pull a 55 gallon drum of dirt out of the new bulkhead hole.
I just came in and put up sections of block foundation as he progressed. Crazy guy if you ask me. Way too much effort for a house you can’t give away these days. It’s gotta be a labor of love I guess.

I remember when I was a little boy, our neighbor and my father took on the project of digging a basement under a large old farmhouse. It had just a small basement that did not go very far under the house but now it has a full basement. Can you imagine the work involved? They moved all the dirt out in wheelbarrows. Worked most of one winter on that job but it turned out well.

We planted some walnut trees several years ago and are now starting to get walnuts off them. I don't remember the exact year we planted them but think it was during the mid 80's. Yes, it takes a while.

Yup! Worked on one house where the Dad made the basement excavating it himself by the pail full! Holy crap, right? But I wish he would've gone a little deeper as it was a low basement!
