Interesting, none of the tree businesses I talk with around me sell firewood. I wonder if the tree business market is less saturated and the firewood sales are more here, making it more profitable to do tree removals. Maybe the firewood business is less saturated and tree work market more where you’re at, making it profitable enough to process and sell firewood. I’ll be interested to see as our economy continues its decline and people have less disposable income if the tree companies around me begin to see value in the wood from removals. I find this kind of stuff interesting!

Agree! They have to pay tipping fees to get rid of it around here! They don't mind dropping off loads, it saves them a butt load of money. I know where I live and ReelFaster they just dump the loads to the dump sadly and a lot of that is due to New Jersey laws! I'm not sure about your area jrider but I would think the same there also. Problem is, they can't get rid of it fast enough.

Yes and tipping fees have gone way up especially large diameter wood. They are all looking to get rid of that stuff but don’t have many takers. What specific laws are you referring to?

I just signed up for chip drop. Been wanting to for a while. Your post motivated me to do so. I declined chips and offered some money in hopes of expediting the process. Time will tell. Thanks for the push!

Call a tree service, one close to you and tell them if they ever want to just dump a load quick, you'l take it. Some guys around here will be working on 2 jobs at a time and need to unload quick, our dump for wood is 12 miles away from me and these guys don't want to burn the fuel, (especially in todays world) and pay the tipping fees.

Certain counties will make/require the tree service take it to the dump unless the land owner keeps the wood. A lot of this had to do with "taxes" and double collecting on a service such as getting paid for the tree cutting, then selling the wood for fuel. Don't forget, we ARE in New Jersey...

I spoke to the guys that dropped the load, they confirmed what you told me WeldrDave and also my a friend of mine that it cost them $$ 300-400 to get rid of that load of wood. It's a win win for both of us, they saved $$ and I got what is looking like about tad over 2 cords.

Put a nice dent processing the load. I started last Wed and hit it pretty hard on Saturday with the splitter. It was a whole family effort for a few hours. I split, they loaded the trailer up, drove it around back, stacked, repeat! They also cleaned up a bunch of debris dropped with the logs in the street.

Tried going for a cross of looking like Dennis Backwoods Savage and Dave WeldrDave being in the middle of the street on this shot. There was no debate on how to split these rounds vertical....vertical.... vertical.

Found this guy in one of the rounds........Chickens made quick work of him.

Founds a bunch of nails as anticipated about 6 - 8 in total.

This is all that's left to move around back. Get that done this weekend!

I know NJ has some messed up laws. Never heard of that one but that would be a county law so you can’t blame the state on that one
