Update on old thread. Work stopped in November . Turns out there was a mistake on the 2014 tax return so we have $$ on the way Found a referral for someone to finish it, as well as lay the vinyl kind in the bathroom. We shall see, its a small job and already homeowner diy'd for half, scares alot of contractors off. Also, he is a master craftsman.... This funky ol rigged up macgyvered house is so bad he may not have anything to do with it, I still have the different floor elevations, ( Eric VW , go ahead and laugh again ).
I finished laying laminate a week or so ago. Tonight I start pulling it up again, as I obviously did not put enough care in the leveling of the concrete slab underneath. Going to get some of the self-leveling stuff from Lowe's and try again. There are two "bowls" that need to be filled. No great harm, learning has happened. I will be able to reinstall all without any loss other than the time of doing it twice.
Thats exactly my husbands hang up, he goes 18 hours per day every day running his business, taxi'ing lil one to and from, then cooking and taking care of both of us at night. Its obvious too, to everyone, he is overextended with his hours in a day, but he does not want to let go of the doing it himself like we have always done. Good job on filling the "bowls" before the joints cracked We used self leveling stuff in 1994 when installing the old style pergo, it worked great. WOW was that laminate flooring back then durable!!!! I hope this new stuff is 1/2 as good.
No way will I laugh at that! A little chuckle maybe, but I know how these things go.... Just happy to read that y'all are a little closer to gettin' 'er done
Guy came out and gave me an estimate, I thought it was high. Ran it by WWW and mentioned it included trim for both rooms, (materials and labor for trim), leveling the different floor elevations, and reinforcing the the spongy spot by the fridg..... WWW told me to confirm immediately LOLOL. He will be out tomorrow if the roads are ok and the dirt road to my house does not get drifted over. Also, he has a family, and did not miss a beat among chaos of nosey dogs and an extra social lil one, he fit right in..... Important to me because he will be working with us all here almost under his feet.
No more indestructible than any other tile. I like tile. I don't like pictures of fake wood on my tile. I think it is a fad that will pass quickly and be expensive to recover from. One benefit of the laminate wood products is that you can quickly remove and replace. Just last night I was putting up the trim above my new laminate floor job. All new casing and baseboards. Nothing fancy but it takes time. The daughters were particularly bothered by the lack of door casing on the bathroom door. You can see right in through the gap over the door shims.
