Just typing about it makes me tired and sore.
Was he able to get more done today?

He is done with the angles around the stove hearth, so the next 1/3 should go faster, and who doesnt like faster progress?!?

Yeah, anytime you've got to do more than a simple 90 deg crosscut, things slow down.

Was too much for me when we did our floors. I hired a professional crew to do it. They moved a very heavy desk, and did they all in one day. I did the stairs. Much more cutting there but stairs were easier to do because I wasn't always on my knees. You'll love the floors once they are done. Only thing to remember is they don't like water!

He is still stuck on doing things like we did in the past, by ourselves..... Except I cannot help very much now and he has more demands since we were blessed with a little one. So, I do not argue about it. Things do not happen like they should anymore, but I am guessing he will come around eventually. He is having a hard time letting go of doing things himself and hiring help. We shall see:sherlock:

I feel the pain. But letting go, being willing to wait, and taking a step back comes with time and your body telling you No No NO.

Some more progress today. Dry fit of the vapor barrier we revealing. Wish the pic was better. What you are looking at is a draft coming up through the subfloor and making a bubble. Directions for laying the floor leaflet from one box was to the right, the bubble was high enough to slide it off under the couch. Hoping the floor will be much warmer:)

That is some serious air infiltration. That is costing comfort and money. With the outside temps you have posted, that would be getting my attention. What do you have for insulation under your floor?

No Doubt!!! I have abnormally cold feet to begin with, so its hard for me to tell if it's just me, or the floor. We made great strides remodeling this summer with the walls/ceiling, sealing and insulating which has helped alot:) But that bubble blew my mind. As far as I can tell, there is nothing under the subfloor (two layers of osb nailed......) except a couple inches of air between the dirt ground and the joists above.

PS, the funny cuts in the subfloor in the pic are piece work for the trap door hatch to the cistern in the ground under that room.

I was going to suggest some foam in any seams.
Guess you can't do that to an access hatch.:headbang:

We had cold floors in the main part of the house at the farm the first 4 years we were there. Same thing... you could feel air coming up thru the pine boards in the livingroom (2' crawl space underneath) It helped when I discovered using the snowblower to make a snow bank all around the exposed outside granite foundation. It worked well to seal it so air couldn't get in under there, and it removed itself in the spring. Slick.

Very slick idea stinny, thanks!! And yes papadave, we will be caulking the main seam that goes from bottom to top in the pic but does not show under the bubble LOL. Expanding foam in the house usually ends up with us cutting some out of the lil ones hair from her helping and inspecting, and then both parents using a utility knife to level the floor after the foam in the seam expands

I have a feeling the draft tunnel going on is from the dilapidated 8x8 laundry room which will be gone/fixed/replaced in the next few years:)

Tell me more please? I seriously doubt there is any plastic. This last and 3rd addition to the home was done a few decades ago, and there are still no regulations/codes enforced out here til this day (except septic and well projects).

Wow, I think you will get seriously more comfortable floors once you get rid of that draft. Looks like good progress is being made. I can relate to the "do it yourself" if possible, even if it is slower.
