I don't really get how little heat this house requires. Doesn't make any sense. 1960 ranch house 1800 upstairs and 1600 uninsulated basement. Newer windows and not enough insulation in the attic. Going down to 30 tonight and if I didn't have any heat on I might lose 3 degrees. I doesn't tkae much to heat this place. New install this fall.
The barn is probably 50ft higher than the house it's all on a slope so it will be uphill run to barn n downhill to house
It did...I'd go through 6-8 cord a year. By this time last year I would have easily burned at least 50% more wood. This house seems to be a thermal inertia freight train...takes forever to heat up and forever to cool down...it takes a lot of energy to get the temp to move. Doesn't matter if it is the heat or the AC. Probably takes more wood than I was thinking last night now that I think about it some more. When I was running the stove in the basement I had to get a good head start on the weather. If I saw a cold snap coming tomorrow I'd have to start burning hard today. The saying around here was "we can get behind" on the heat because we knew we wouldn't be able to catch up. Maybe there's a couple tons of gold bars hidden in the walls somewhere?
I've considered the same thing. problem with solar heaters is you have unlimited hot water all day in the summer, right when you don't need it. then you have a limited supply at the end of the day, right when you need a shower. or at least that's when I take my shower. . . . . . every week!!! whether I need it or not
If there would be more than just me, probably wouldn't work, i don't take long showers as it is, might be cheaper to just put on more deodorant?
I would double check with the diameter of the pipe. might have to go with inch and a quarter pipe. or something like that, possibly
