I just got back into shooting my compound bow. Its a hoyt powerhawk and I decided to dust it off and put it to good use. I have never archery hunted, only shotgun. Most mornings there are at least a couple deer in my front yard. I figure I could take a deer before the weather is bitter cold. I have been practicing every evening after work for the last month. Yesterday I bought half a dozen arrows, the fletchings were worn or falling off on the few arrows I still had. I managed to destroy two arrows in one night. 14 dollars down the drain. Not the best groupings but both of these shots were at 20 yards. I guess the one shot is more likely to happen with so many arrows in the bag but I don't know what the odds of doing this twice in one night are. I put my cheap bag target onto an old trashcan, I figure it can't be good muscle memory to have the bag really low on the ground. And if I hit the trash can, no big deal. Now all I need to do is pick out some broad heads and make sure they fly like my field points. Thanks for reading.
Nice job, hang them up in your garage! Knocking off nocks is skill - it takes a lot of luck to tube an arrow: everything has to be JUST right!
It's an expensive skill. I found that buying multiple targets is cheaper than wrecking nice arrows. Ahhhh, the good old days when I had time to shoot a bow.....
Nice shooting. Yes, it can get expensive. Especially if you start taking in some public shoots. Seems no matter what, if you shoot first, others just seem to aim at your arrow...
hang that on the wall ,i have been shooting a bow since i was 12 and have never done it ,i have ruined lot's of fletchings though ,yes it was pricey but it is still pretty cool
