Elm is stringy if you cut and split when green. This is why I keep telling folks if you want good elm, wait until it has not only dead, but it is best when all or at least most of the bark has fallen off.
I live in East Granby CT. I can be in The No HO area in like 45 minutes. Maybe opportunity later in the fall.
There are a lot of members in this area of the country. Someone should set up a GTG before the weather turns.

Recently was in E Granby. GF and i went to Enders Falls a couple Sundays ago. Waterfall was very low with the drought. Took the Newgate prison tour after. I got in trouble trying to scrounge wood on the park grounds. They were very strict about mask wearing.
Thou shall please the crown and don thy mask, lest you peasantry be shackled and banished to the copper mine ! That is a nice tour from what I remember (it's been 25+ years since I've been there) Last I knew, they had closed it to the public for financial reasons. Glad to see it back up and running.
Watched a documentary on that prison. Wasn’t pretty. Did stumble upon it some years back but that was during the closed years otherwise I would have taken the tour.
