So I have plans for a 30x40 shop which I would like to build just behind the mill shed. I built the mill shed to be a lean-to off of the back of shop once it is constructed. However, my hold up with the construction of the shop is I plan to put in a concrete slab to build it on, and I don’t have the funds for that at the moment. So, to keep busy with something to do this winter we decided to use the old “piggery” foundation and build the barn on it. The foundation is probably 50-60 years old and had been back filled with dirt. I’m pretty happy with how it has worked out so far.
Welcome aboard PEIBenj Nice setup, hope you don't run out of trees on that island! Don't worry about your stove numbering at 5 as I have 6 myself. And 4 of them are hooked up and used!
I've got to confess about that one though. I heat with an OWB. I also have a small stove in the basement (nice!). I have one stove in a garage workshop. I have one stove in the cottage. Then I have two in storage. One is a fisher knock off that I just can't part with, the other is a small 3" vent wood stove for an ice shack or hunting blind.
Understand that cost factor I could not justify a bigger mill when I bought my lt-35 it was the lowest priced hydraulic in the woodmizer lineup I did opt for the diesel engine I did not realize how fast the word would get out about sawing in my area I am now considering upgrading next year I do not know your area but once word gets out you might be surprised by how much sawing you will end up doing looks like a nice setup you made enjoy !! JB I also built the building for my mill it seems to be one of the first things everyone does with their new mill
You could just make some more supports under those rails and then they would probably support all the weight you want. You have no shortage of wood after all.
This is my initial set up. Having never owned a mill before I wasn’t sure about the layout. After half a year of milling there are some things which I like and some I would change. I like the log deck, however at the moment I do not have a very efficient way to deal with the slab edges. Oh well... guess you can’t have it all!
