Yep, same options here. If I were buyng, I think I would pay the extra $100. But I decided to not buy, so next Spring it is my little electric and the Fiskars again. Which is quite OK.

I'm going to go Friday and see if my TSC will honor the price from a different market. If so I'll probably buy one. The farther I get on my 3 year plan, the more I don't need a splitter. But when I get those big rounds I'm going wish like hell I one.

No Family Farm around me or I would be giving the Yard Max a hard look.

I looked our Hanover store today and their sale price is $799. They had several mauls and axes on sale.

I bought mine on clearance when they were getting the new style in 2 years ago. $629. I can't see much difference in the new ones except the jack stand that they added springs to. Prolly pushing 75 cords so far.

The way I read it, they will match their online price in the store. Not quite the same thing, but I sure would try.

What other shops are in your area; Blain's Farm & Fleet is going to have the champion on offer for $799.99/800 and it comes with the cradles so need to buy them. I would have sent you my flyer for TSC so you could have taken it in; I mentioned that.

This is what worked for me when I got a price match on another item recently. "Say, could you do a price match on the log splitter; another store has it at $699." I would not say "in a distant city" or anything like that. If they ask, then give them a city name. I also would not say "I saw it online." It might just depend on which clerk you happen to luck up on; some might do it, some might not. But the lady I got it from made the decision without calling a manager. On a splitter, might be different.

EDIT: I see someone posted the actual policy. If any flack, I'd mention that I was under the impression they have a price match guarantee.

I would try this, I would find the $699.99 price online, take a photo with your phone or print it out. Take that with you and see if you can talk the manager into letting you have it at the same price; they might be willing to do so.

Tractor Supply will have different prices for the same item in two different stores in the same county; that baffles me. I can see maybe difference from North and South since we have a lower cost of living down here; but in the same county?

I pulled the trigger on the one at Family Home and Farm. Just got it home. Got the extended warranty since I tend to abuse most my equipment. 20191129_071913.jpg

Picture was a bit blurred but it showed that you are the proud owner of the splitter. Here is a clear shot of the splitter; nice, full beam, vertical.

I bought a Countyline 25 ton splitter earlier this year. Really liked it. Split about 4-5 cords with it and noticed it was eating itself up in the channel where the wedge slides. Talked to TSC and they said they have had that problem since they changed the design. I returned it for a refund,. Too bad as I liked the splitter overall. Ended up buying a 35 ton Wood General (Brave) from a friend. It was like new, even though it had mabey 10 cords through it (the guy is anal about his stuff)

I'm spraying red grease into the channel to help negate that problem. I don't know if it's helping but it sets my mind at ease a little bit.
It sucks that it is doing this but I'm not going to lose sleep over it and wasn't returning it. It's a good machine to me.
I thought about it, after bigfrank posted about it a while back.
The way I see it is, it is residential and not commercial for one. I don't split dozens of cords a year on it (yet)
So the wear shouldn't be an issue in the years to come. I figure if I do 10 cords a year which I haven't and it lasts overs 5 years before the channel wears out.
That machine paid for itself. I suppose at that point some creative welding could take care of the issue and get another 5+ years out of it.
