I don't have a clue about how you go about doing that and sealing up the gap, I don't know much about liners.
If you stick with your 8 inch chimney you may have to add 2 or 3 feet of chimney pipe, then you'll probably have to add a support to hold it

I know that there are many happy owners of NC30's and it sounds like a good overall stove, but I thought one of the things you were concerned with was long extended burns for being away from the house. I guess by what I have picked up on by some threads I have read is that the NC30's are not giving the long burns of some others out there. I'm not saying they are not good stoves and the price is certainly right but am I wrong on the length of burn ?

I think this is his main objective ,, Just can't stand the thought of going through another winter with the VC 0028. Too much maintenance for me

Looking mostly for low maintenance and longer burn times. I can get to the stove for a refill after 9 to 11 hours depending on the day and once I'm home work is outside in the shop so that isn't an issue. When it gets real cold and stays there I need to fill the VC around every 4 hours. By the time I get home from work the house has cooled off enough that it takes until I go to bed to get it back up to a comfortable temp and then back up again in the middle of the night to fill again.

Plenty of nc30 burners here that can offer advice for longer burn times.. Bigger pieces of dry oak, locust, hard maple etc. will help your cause while you are away.. I get long burns with the T5 which is a little over 2 cu. ft. firebox..

Last winter when we got down around -20 or so I was burning some 5 year seasoned oak I picked up out of an old barn. I was getting close to 5 hours with the VC of good heat output but it dropped off fast after 5 hours. So far this year I'm burning ash that's been split and stacked over a year with a top cover and it was standing dead when it was cut. Around 11 to 13% moisture. Still around 4 hours of high heat output.

If I can hit 8 hours of good solid heat output we'll be good to go.

Long burn times are relative. It great wood in an inefficient stove gets 5 hrs burn, just think of what it will do in an efficient stove. I'm in that same boat, and I'm looking forward to an efficient burning stove this season.

I would go 6 inches out of the stove, and stay that way until you need an adapter to fit into the 8 inch flue.

As for the damper, they are optional and usually not necessary, many people put them in as an extra method to shut down the flue should a stove get over-fired, or a chimney fire occur. But, it is another part to be in the way of the air exit, and will collect creosote and tar. I think it's a cleaner installation without it, and provides a better airtight path for exit gasses.

Just got home from picking it up. Now I just need to buy enough beer to lure some buddies over for the lift and carry.

Do as much 6" as you can.
Make sure you have at least 15' total, and this is measured from the hearth this stove sits on.
Really shouldn't need a damper with the pipe "right-sized" and "right-lengthed". It's very controllable, but will run up to 650-700 (and more) easily if you let it.
Unless it's below 10 outside, I can get 8 hours easy, but this house doesn't hold heat well, but if yours does, you'll do gooder.
    Dry wood.
    I highly dislike the handle.
    Get the better blower.
If I'd had the money, I'd have a BK where the 30 sits. May still happen at some point.
    More pics.

I'm hoping to set it in place this weekend. I picked up the 6" stove pipe and adapter and have it sitting on the bench for the install.

Total chimney length is close to 16' from the hearth.

Didn't know there was a better blower available. Any info on it?

    5th item down.
Don't know if they're still doing it, but mine came with a card with a phone # to call for the "hair dryer" blower.....which was free. I (and others) upgraded to the one I linked.

Should be an interesting day. All buddies are either at deer camp or working. And it just started raining so the ramp is gonna be slick. Pulled the vc out last night and starting on moving in the new one. I'll try to post pics as I go.
