Picked up some of these at local TSC. 4.59/bag. Made right in Massena by Curran. Will see how this batch burns.
I'll translate for ya! It means YUK and Ewww! Stinky even! They burn OK, Not much heat and smell funny IMHO! Only as a last resort in my stove and it would have to be in warmer weather so I didn't need to over work the beast and eat 3 bags a day! Whew, Dat was tough. I need a beer!!
BLAH!!!!! Those are a PASS for me too.....I thought something was wrong with my stove when I threw them in.....
Dammit! WTF? Now I have to guy buy something else and burn these in the gasification boiler?! Did everyone have this experience with these? Anyone using a similar stove to my S.H. 55 and tried these? Glad I only bought 10 bags.
That would probably help. Or wait until late March-early April to burn them. Or maybe late April early May?
I'm only using the pellet stove for keeping the camp in the 40-45 degree range. We crank it up on the days we go down there, but that is usually once a week during this cold weather.
I will. Seems like I bought some Currans earlier this heating season. Just under a different brand/package. Packaged as Currans I think. Now I'm trying to get past the C.R.S. And recall how they burned. Yup, I remember I bought six bags of them at Ashley's Home Center.
You'll prolly be fine as you don't seem to need killer heat in the cold like the home burners desire. Should be fine, So worth a try. Save the warmer stuff for when you plan on being there if possible.
Curran is the original producer. The "North American" are the re-bagged version for big-box distribution. Lowes has had them the last couple of years, but even they realized no one really liked them. The guy in my local Lowes even said they had a lot of complaints and wouldn't be getting them again unless there wasn't anything else available. That said, the Curran softwood version has gotten pretty good reviews.
Well these seem to be burning okay I guess. I have nothing else to mix them with yet. LOL little dirtier than the ones I have been burning, but they are keeping the camp above 45 and it is cold here. I just cleaned the stove again and she is up and running again, blower just turned on. Things have been running smoother lately. Funny how things are happier when they are clean. Shoulda had the wife doing it from the beginning! You tell her I said that and I'll ..... Going to -15 tonight.
I had some of those, maybe 2 yrs ago? I wasn't impressed by heat, ash was heavy, but what I remember most, while burning the house always smelled like crayons...
