I have a Husqvarna 555 RXT I ordered from Honey Brothers in Europe, as one can't buy one in the states. I have a trimmer head, grass blade and saw blade for it. I run 4mm line on the trimmer head. Husqvarna 555RXT Brushcutter
I’m running Shindaiwa equipment here. Over the years I’ve purchased several preowned trimmers and brush cutters I’ve not had one fail yet. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I have a SRM-2601 that doesn't even have an operator prescence safety, just a trigger. It sounds like it's had a muff mod, but it has not. lol Easy to start. However...cold blooded! You can't just take off with it...she's gotta warm up a bit before you can get in the throttle. Once warm runs like an animal. My buddy just resto'ed his old 2100 unit. Has an odd vibration though. A few years back I sought out the 'ultimate' brush cutting blade and ended up with a 3 blade contraption out of Austrailia. The 2601 runs it well. Something else about the unit stands out besides the lack of throttle safety....it has felt on the muffler guard. Or at least a felt-like material. Nice cushion rubber on the grip...doesn't feel cheap. The felt I suppose is to mitigate the heat if your arm happens to make contact. Crazy to me that things like this used to be put on tools. Truly 'nice' stuff.
If another grey straight shaft trimmer shows up at the local online auction I plan on trying to own it.
This is a 20+ year old Homelite trimmer. In theory, it shouldn’t still be running, but it is. I want to upgrade, but now I want to see how long this will go. It’s been a gas ‘n go machine for years. I replaced the fuel lines once, a few air filters and a few spark plugs. The throttle cable is a little wonky, but the darn thing still chugs along. It’s happy with a 40:1 mix.
I’ve had an Echo SRM 260 for at least 25 years and while a great trimmer it was hard to start and took forever to warm up where it would rev up for use. About three weeks ago it just would barely start and then not stay running. Thinking it was time to flush this turd and buy a new trimmer ( I have a Stihl bicycle handled brush cutter that I can convert to trimmer but it stays as a dedicated brush cutter). After noodling on it I decided that putting a new carb and all new fuel lines on the Echo was worth a $22 try, I bought one from HIPA (which goes against my principles) and low and behold it now starts on two yanks and runs better than it has since new . A plus is that the replacement carb has a screw to adjust the high speed jet which the old one did not. The kit also came with new purge bulb, spark plug, and air filter in addition to the fuel hoses, fuel filter and tank grommet. Color me Happy
I had an old Toro with Shindawa motor 1987 ish that lasted (read used 8 hours at a shot non stop) lasted til 2011.. when I went to Stihl combi.. my shopping was I am going to put a 10” saw blade on it it need to spin fast enough to sound like crystal singing.. means it will take out 3” maples on edge of fields.. one small engine shop said sure try it.. installed blade and brought me to edge of woods.. it did it faster than chain saw; stumps are ground level, all brush falls 1 direction; and if you lay down a thin chain and it pulls away easily. Yes I spent too much time clearing trails and fields for farmers.. 95% is shops said I was That shop sold so many units to snowmobile clubs. He gave me chainsaw attachment the next year They are still my equipment dealer
I love the bike handle trimmers. We have a lot of rock outcroppings and slopes the tractor and lawn tractor can't reach. I have already run through five gallons of mix in less than two weeks. The Echo 3020 is my favorite. I run .105 line and I can slow down the speed around the rocks and make the line last.
You see, there is always the hope one of my boys will grab one and help out. They like helping with the fireood cutting but they get scarce around weed eating season.
My trimmer is nothing to brag about! Its an OLD Weedeater Featherlite W25...starts hard, doesn't run great, but it is still doing the job on the rare occasion that I need to "weedeat" the property (mower gets most of it) if I can get it to fire (usually ether involved) pin the throttle and adjust the choke for maximum RPM's, git r dun! It owes me nothing...
Echo SRM-2100 I bought new in the 90's, still going strong. The saw blade and guard for it hanging below have never been used and I believe have been hanging there since the trimmer was new. The other one is a echo 410-U brush cutter I only used it once to clear a lot but it's pretty impressive.
I've purchased a few of those mixed in groups of auction trimmers. I only kept the poulan / weed eater / craftsman trimmers to oil test on. They were all the same just different colors. The rest I sold or gave away. Those Homelite trimmers all ran strong and I'd use one if a minty one landed in my lap.
I need that to ruin in an oil test. If you were close by I'd trade that echo for it if you were so inclined.
