My neighbor is quite aloof and has multiple Russian olive trees that grow into the driveway. A few times a year I have to give this one a tuneup. I don’t own a hedger so echo SRM2620 for the win.
That’s what I was wondering. Although I don’t read much about anyone porting string trimmers of brush clearing saws. I thought when I posted the question maybe someone might have had experience with doing it.
I left these a little too late. A week ago the string was tearing these up. Now it's like slapping small trees.
I'd like to try clearing that with my 555 with the brush blade. I tried the brush blade once and it was WAY overkill for what I have to clear. Couldn't really go WOT with it, just not enough load there to keep the RPM's down. With the 14" brush blade there's a ton of momentum in that metal when it gets spinning. Then if you happen to hit a stump or something, yikes! String head works best for me in the brush I have to clear. When using the saw blade I am cutting small trees, so there is load there.
That is at the size a tri blade would make quick work or that stuff. I go down to the lower drive with the string head and should have brought the blade/bike handle unit.
I had to pick up some fuel filters for the saws and strimmers at the stihlership. I broke this part yesterday, it’s what the harness hooks to on the bicycle handle FS110. The guy at the parts counter said. “ In my history of working here I have never seen anybody break one of these. You are weedeating too much.” They had the part that came with a harness for $9, he said it had been sitting upstairs since 2017. I’ve owned the trimmer since 2016. I told the guy the next time I break one I’ll buy a new unit.
I would love to hit it with a blade but we are in extreme fire danger for the next few days. 14" brush blade holy cow! I think the one that came with the 3020 is only 10".
I'm about to buy one of the toro flex force 60v string trimmers. That is unless someone can talk me out of it. It seems they have a really good selection of interchangeable tools. The pole saw and the blower look like about the only other tools I'd really need. Then again, they do have a chainsaw for that battery system too....
We're moving and in the process I stumbled across my old Stihl fs55r that I had problems with. Going to revisit that after the move. Lost spark while trimming so ordered a coil and never got it to run on the new coil....just a backfire here and there. Keyway was fine so think the Chinese coil is the issue. Going to try and find genuine Stihl coil and see what that does.
I can't tell you whether Toro battery stuff is any good, but I support the decision to go with some kind of battery powered setup. When I'm using the power equipment frequently gas powered is fine. With the crappy gas we have, occasional use is a pain. First I need fresh fuel to mix or canned gas. Afterwards I have to dump the fuel and run the engine/carb dry. That is asking a lot if I only need to use something for a few minutes. A battery powered chainsaw and trimmer would be real nice, some day. I'd like to know if anyone has a battery powered trimmer and how they like it.
If the coil is like that stuff on Amazon I think you are right. Most of it is either dead on arrival or deal soon after installation. That trimmer is definitely worth getting going again.
