We live in the country so we took the kids to my in-laws where there was about 70 or so houses back a dead end drive suburb. We probably only saw 30 or so other kids out which is surprising since the weather was perfect last night.
It was cold here. Our grandkids went out for about 45 min. with their parents. Seems like it went well and they got enough candy. Their mother will monitor how much they get to eat at any one time. Now if their Dad will stay out of it, the candy will last a while. We had a big bowl of candy here. I didn't touch it. What is left over will be parceled out to the kids when they visit.
we had our annual "carts and candy" event out at Winton Country Club last Sunday. what we do is get the golf carts out and kinda spread them around the grounds in front of the manor house (off the golf course) and decorate them in the Halloween theme (members decorate their own carts) and open the club up to the public no admission fee at all, folks are able to bring their kids out for trick or treating with no worrys about traffic, weirdo's (except me lol), and the like. coach Goldie brings the tractor out and does hay rides around the course over to the cemetery on the grounds where Patrick Henry's mother is actually buried, tell some G rated ghost stories and the like. its a great time, our members go all out for it I had an absolute ball, mom and I handed out glowstick bracelets as well so the kids could wear them when they did their "public" T or T ing on Halloween helps keep them visible. its so much more fun than just handing out candy at the door.
As usual, no trick or treaters at our door so we settled on just giving my wife a special Halloween treat. The so-called trunk or treat seems to have gotten big around here but it really drives me crazy every year to see people asking on the Internet and even the local paper to find out when trick or treating will be done this year. Shouldn't it be on Halloween? I don't ever remember anyone wondering when we were kids when it was okay to go do this sort of thing... Shoot, I don't even remember anyone checking the candy to make sure it was safe for us to eat. We probably had it half eaten before we got home anyway and neither mother or father went with kids. We did not need anyone looking over our shoulders. I will say that I do sort of miss the left-over candy that we did not give out when we did get the little goblins at our door. I'd sneak out the left-over candy and put it into my hunting bag so I could chew on it while hunting.
yeah, our deal is a "trunk or treat" I guess, we do it the day before so we can (in case of members with kids) take them on the traditional trick or treating. ours is almost a cross between a trunk or treat and a Halloween party, we do serve refreshments in the manor house ballroom had hay rides and face painting , little games and such. its more than just handing out candy (oh and I still have a boatload of candy to get fat on sitting at my desk lol)
Another year with no little monsters at all. 99 still like to have treats in case they do show up-guess I'll have to take one for the team and eat those treats!
15 years here, still zero trick or treaters. Nobody wastes their time at the five houses around me when the good pickings are 3 miles away in town.
My brother used to decorate his house all up, spooky music going, he dressed up as an ugly Igor type of guy, used theatrical makeup, raggedy clothes and had a hunchback. He would come out real quick into the doorway and Grunt and growl, a couple of kids fell off the porch, a lot of them just skipped all four steps and ran like hell toward the road, other ones just froze and started screaming, oh yeah, some parents took off running too. I wish I had videos of some of that, funny stuff .
Mrs Thor lost count. But we had fun! The 2 short ones are mine. What a great night. The warmest I can remember.
