Definitely dead and about the perfect size for firewood. Not too much heavy lifting there. What size come on the 8 cord grapple load? Probably best to just go that route if you have the space and money. Gas saved and time. That could free you up for more family time.... if that's what you want. Lol.
Yup family time is what I value most. It goes by in a flash,I can’t believe 8 years has gone by already . They will be on to there own lives before I know it. I’ll enjoy it while I can.
As far as what comes on the grapple truck I don’t know, been there done that a bunch. As long as it’s not yard trees Ill be good.
Same thing happened here last year. I bought 11 cord hardwood in May for $1100. Gave same guy a call 4 months later and it was 140 bucks a cord! "Everything is going up" Yeah, I know....but 40% increase in one swipe? "Well, let me know OK?" Yeah, I can let you know right now. I'm not ready to pay that price; thanks anyway. I ended up finding 12 cord of red oak for $1200. Dang the luck!
That's about how the ash trees looked around here when the bug came thru. I did a little reading and the first place the bug was ided here in the states was canton, mi. So it may just be getting really settled in up your way? Or they are one of the more resilient types that have finally succumb to the disease? Looking at this map, i would guess it started in a D.C. port. Maybe those are blue ash and the bug has run outta other more preferred types? I'm really just thinking out loud here.

I’m coming to the same realization. Mine are 2 and newborn so not like they can join me out there. I’m going to split what I have, then put effort into building a big woodshed then just get splits delivered. When they are a little older and can help I’ll go back to getting log loads.
