The 4910 got the call this evening and got a little over half of it bucked. The smell was amazing. Will pull the splitter out this weekend and get it all cleaned up and stacked. Probably start the stove up this weekend…cold front coming in. Have had a couple small fire so far this fall but looking like we may burn for several days straight this time.

It looks like that would make some interesting boards color wise.
Not sure how it is for milling though.

I run it through my mind as first can I mill it ,
then if the answer is no plan "B" is for firewood.

I thought about trying to mill a couple of slabs, but none of the bigger stuff was much over 2’ long. Also read that Bradford pear doesn’t finish well, so decided it will all go to firewood. If the inter web is correct, that it is 26.5 mm btu, I don’t think I will regret that decision.

I see now what everyone means about splitting this stuff…no grain to it. Splits extremely easy, but weird shaped splits due to no grain to split along. Not terrible though, got about 1/3 of a cord split up this evening…going to hit it hard tomorrow and try to get it all cleaned up before the snow tomorrow evening.

Have about a cord split and stacked so far. Maybe a little over half a cord left. Then about half a cord of cottonwood and Siberian elm mix to split as well. Kind of like having a little cottonwood or pine or cedar in the stacks. With elm as my main firewood, I need something that rips to burn the coals down when it’s really cold out. Will definitely be trying some of this Bradford pear on the smoker…getting plenty of uglies with the way it splits.

Reminds me personally of apple. But to be honest my palate is not refined enough to tell a huge difference between the woods. Except pine pine tastes like poop

Got the last of it split this evening. Will finish stacking tomorrow evening. Ended up with about a cord and 1/3 of splits and an ibc tote basket almost full of chunklies. Pretty decent score for this area of some high btu good smelling wood. Still have a little over 1/3 cord of cottonwood to split and stack as well.
