Ok, got it nearly all done today. I ran out of daylight, and energy. The new splitter motor works great. I'll change the oil after I get the last 5 rounds split. Here's what's left. 3 big rounds of Honey locust, 1 Rd of Norway maple, and a big half round of elm. Remember the big stump round of locust in had to noodle? The one that could have made a cool table? It made this pile of splits. 49 splits. Most are pretty big too. The stump was about 4 ft across. Here's another big Honey locust round. 23" It's heavy stuff. Here's the stack so far. It's 6 ft tall. The other angle I've got a little more too fill in. Those 5 rounds should do it. If they don't, oh well.
Man, tedious work for sure. Looking good though. Must be gratifying when you get something done even if its just a little bit.
Yeah, that was about 6 hours of work. Give or take. I'll get the rest done soon. When the splitter motor puked, that sure put a wrinkle in my plans. The way I look at it, that's a whole year's worth of wood, if not more.
Yep. All of this is only the tree service freebies. I've got a bunch of rounds at my wood lot, that need to be split, but I'm not adding to this stack. This stack's really done only because I had to put it somewhere. Well, until I build my wood shed.
All's well that ends well. Definitely a better day on my end here. Rains quit and sun was out all day so I started yesterday and finished today. Much accomplished since I waited for a dry day for what seems like eternity. When you get your shed going make sure you show off.
Nice, nice, nice. I made it down about halfway and stopped. Actually had the green truck with me too! Man, are the birds ever out down there!!!
I've got it under wraps. It's all good. I'm giving my body a day off. I'll see how I feel tomorrow. But doing 5 rounds shouldn't take me too long. The daylight savings time sure helps as it's light enough until about 7pm.
Ok, it's all done. Well all but cleaning up the chips, bark, and splitter bait. The other angle. All stacked..
I like big splits and I cannot lie! There were some rounds that were 12" round, but most were 23" plus in diameter.
