There's such a thing as wood alcohol. It's poisonous to drink though. Aka methanol, so it's got punch, just best for vehicles rather than people.
OK I spent at least 5 hours cutting today. I ran through 5 tanks, or was it 6, of gas. Pics soon. Dinner now
OK, I have a bit more to cut, but I made a very big dent in the pile. Those 3 foot elm pieces were about that. Some longer, some shorter. Here's after a bit of cutting. Here's the base of a tree. I think it's the honey locust. I'll noodle it once or twice because the splitter siren here is horizontal only. It's thick enough for a decent split, maybe a little short. It'll do. It's about 4 ft wide. Maybe I'll sledge and wedge it? Here's a "3 ft piece of elm". There's a few of these. Pre split down the center. 1 cut and there's 2 chunks at 17". Even in half they are heavy. Progress.. A half hour later.. I took a break, went into town, rented a movie, and got a bit more work in. That's it for a day. Here's how far I got. I'll get the splitter tomorrow morning, split what I got cut up and get the rest cut up, and split.
I also took some moisture meter readings. It was 66° today, so the MM should be right on for calibration purposes. Honey locust Norway maple 26.5% Elm 25.2% Hmm, can't find the pic... The dead pine. Norway pine maybe? Some of the pine, looks like Norway pine but was told it was fir, was already dead and the bark was falling off.
I have to clear the driveway. Otherwise I'll hear about it from my better half. Plus, if I clear it out, I can get more. Lol Granted, it's where I park my boat in summer, so it's really not a big deal.
I've already got one of those clocks from when I was a boy scout about 30 yrs ago. It's made from cypress. I agree though, it'd be a cool table.
I didn't get as much as I wanted to get done today, but I did what I could. The big elm pieces that were split in half are pretty massive. .8 of a cord split. Then the exhaust pipe on the splitter came out of the head again. I'll have to use either rtv, or exhaust pipe dope on the threads so it won't back out. I've got this left to do. Some cutting, some splitting. I'm guessing there's 3-4 times more of what I've got done, yet to do.
Well, the threads on the exhaust port of the splitter are still there. That's the good news. Not enough daylight for me to do anything more than that after I took the pipe assembly apart at work. It's got 3 nipples, a straight coupler, and a 45° coupler, and the muffler. Have fun with that Eric VW . I could post a pic, but I'll let your imagination go off on that.
Thats a pile of work right there Horkn - Nice, neat work and mega btu's...Hoard on brotha! I'm rooting for your nipples too
