I have mature red maples that drop those helicopters every spring. Last year instead of pulling the maples starts and throwing them out, I dug up the best ones and planted them in two gallon pots. In the fall, I planted six or seven along the driveway, spaced about 15 feet apart. I hope to do the same thing again this year, and every year after, until the driveway is ultimately lined with maples. It'll look awesome in the spring/summer/fall! In the winter I will probably be tempted to cut them down . I also cut stems off a weeping willow tree last year. I soaked the stems in water and they developed roots. I planted the stems in two gallon pots, and eventually planted them in the ground. We now have two willows that are about four feet tall after less than one year. I figure if we are taking trees we ought to be replacing them!
Firewood seeds More like “I need some fast growing trees to fill in a couple empty spaces in my yard” Okay, maybe there’s more than a couple seeds here...
Better hide those from buZZsaw BRAD ! Story goes that he roasts and eats them like they are sunflower seeds......
High in protein and fiber. My Dr. says at my age i need lots of r u f f a g e! They look like chocolate chips
I did it on its own and the the word i typed was an old slang word for fiber. I just googled it and it has a different contemporary slang hence the correction.
I have planted an Arbor Vitae wind brake of about 30 trees that was eventually removed for a fence. A couple Cherry trees, both still with us. About 6 Spruce trees by permit from National forest land. Two remain. Two Japanese Maples still here and a Vine Maple still around. I remember going out in the woods with my Dad, when about 10years old, to dig up and transplant an Oak tree to our back yard in Maryland. It was my special tree in the yard. Lo, some 60 years later I look up our old address on Goggle Earth and see a large, spreading tree where my Dad and I planted that spindly little bit of green!
It looks like the rose of Sharon both took. I've been watering them a lot. The other treesI planted seem to be doing fine as well. The one rose of Sharon is at the end of the driveway, where I took out one of the first ash trees on my land. I hope that rose of Sharon takes off and blocks more of the A hole across the street from me. That's the goal at least. Roughage. Ruffage. Lol
They grow fast especially in full sun where they’ll bush out quite a bit. Great for your intentions. I know the young ones that I cut with loppers at ground level in the spring regrew and shot up a couple feet this summer. In the spring when most things are already leafed out, the rose of Sharon takes its time coming back to life, so don’t get alarmed if it’s bare longer than everything else.
I have a few red maples going and a black locust that will get planted at the new house this summer. Ill also probably plant some osage there too.
