This last remaining black locust tree of mine got culled this past weekend. It was starting to shade out my largest American chestnut during the late afternoon hours. Being that BL are not threatened and are abundant throughout the eastern US, whereas AC are classified as functionally extinct, the choice was easy although bittersweet. Oh well. I have to use the limited growing space I have to the best of my ability. My largest AC flowered this June but did not produce any burs. Maybe next year with the added sunlight it will produce for the first time. Fingers crossed.

It was around last year, but it has about an inch of procumbent growth rn. I think a deer chewed the terminal earlier this summer.

Was that from the seed pods I got from that thorny one?

No, those seed pods I got from you were empty inside. That tree must not have been cross pollinated by another HL. The tree I'm growing now came from pods I collected from a route 9 offramp in 2023.
