American or Soft Elm then. The bottom pic is Red Elm also called Slippery Elm. Here is an endgrain macro of Bitternut Hickory for comparison.
Alright so the good news is we figured out what it is and i havnt burned alot of elm but when i did i liked it, thought it caught on quick and burned really nice. Iv only burned it mixed in with other stuff so it will be fun to try by itself. I think the bad news is that its a couple of big trees and i know how much it sucks to split and most likely will need to be halved on site.
Ya i forgot to tell you we looked up that endgrain pic of the bitternut and my wood was definitely not that, im gonna use those types of pics all the time now cuz im terrible at tree id. Thanks alot for the helpful tip
I took home a few pieces of elm from a tree we took down and the rounds look identical toy your. Wish it wasn't so tough to split
and I bet your wife was impressed with looking at wood under a magnifying glass... ... Thats interesting never knew that... just one more tool to identify...
