I have this tree that is dying and will probably bring it down this year. I thought it was Tulip Poplar but the internet pictures don't look like it.
Is it worth the effort to make firewood out of it? I have plenty other wood to process and where it is at isn't causing any problems. It may go to the back burner.

Reason for edit. I took a second look at the tree and there is a Locus about 15 feet from said tree . The beans, that I always thought came from the tree may have come from the Locus. Ignore the bean picture. The other pictures are good. To the left side of the leaf picture is the bark of the tree.

Because of the bean I would have said honey locust, but the leaves pictured are not honey locust. The honey locust is easy to identify because of the spikes that it grows.

    Sorry, no help here.

I have a lot of black locus on the property and there are many Honey Locus trees in the area, but this tree does not have any spikes at all.
Before the picture, I traced the leaf branch back to the tree. If it ends up being Honey Locus it will definitely move up on my priority list. The leaf picture also has the bark in it on the left.
I will go back and make sure the leaves are connected to the tree.

There's a hybrid type used by landscapers that doesn't have spikes. But your tree ain't it either, the leaves are wrong. I'm still looking. :binoculars:

Ignore the bean. I went back and there is a large locus about 15 ft east of the tree. The other pictures are good.
I went and did some editing on the OP.

After Ralphie's post I went back and took a second look. Leafs look like Ash to me. Any agreement here?
Ash would not surprise me since we have been hit EAB here.
I burn a lot of Ash and it would definitely be worth going after.

If there's a bunch of new growth lower in the tree while the top is dying I'd say ash. Leaves look about right.

The bark of the tree in the background looks like ash. The leaves look somewhat like ash but the bean is out of place. Ash trees don't make beans. If the leaves and limbs are opposite it's ash if they are alternating then it ain't. Remember the acronym MAD HORSE.

:BrianK: These are the only North American deciduous trees with opposite branching and leafing: Maple, Ash, Dogwood and Horse chestnut, aka buckeye. MAD HORSE

The bark and dead branches look like ash. However, the leaves you sent... that's poison ivy. Look at the slightly out-of-focus cluster of flowers among the leaves. That little spike of flowers is not from an ash tree, but they do match the cluster of flowers, and later berries, that grow on poison ivy. Google 'poison ivy flower' and you'll see what I mean.
