Speaking of woodpeckers, we never had the pileated woodpeckers until the EAB became really hungry here. I hope they are here to stay but have not seen many lately. Perhaps they will move to where the borers are thick. Our woods is decimated now so not much for them to feed on locally.
Not surprised. I did a little reading last night an it seems the EAB actually prefer the younger trees.
The problem with that theory is that if you wait, you'll then end up with hundreds of trees to cut and eventually the wood does lose a lot of btu potential. We're to the point where many trees will just rot in the woods as they've gone too long to make decent firewood.
I'm just doing that on my property and I don't have that many here. Any place else, cut em when ya see em.
