Welcome to the land of the woodenheads Geoffrey Offenheiser! Lots of great folks with a lot of good information here. I'm on with silver maple. I have a good bit of in in my shoulder season stacks.
Welcome Geoffrey Offenheiser - You’re gonna like it here, I guarantee it! We like pics, dogs and beer. We also like spending your money on accoutrements to further your addiction, er, uh, I meant hoard. Lots of wonderful folks here willing to lend advice or a hand. And I concur with the majority of my brethren here, you now have silver maple in your hoard. Nice to meet ya!
Looking at your counter weight it looks like your using a track roller off of a d-8 or d-9! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Very good eye, sir. You are correct Here is a better view of it...has 2 D8 rollers on it, with hitch ball. It weighed 800# before I added the solid shaft in the middle. Makes a good bumper too...lol
Very nice. I’ve put several of them on. There’s some weight there for sure! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I was thinking silver maple as well. However, an end grain shot will help determine this. The bark looks way too thin to be any oak, and the bark itself looks just like the silver maple I cut up last spring.
I’m still new at this, but if the twigs in the pic belong to this tree, and by looking at the bark, I’m gonna guess it’s Shagbark Hickory. The twig pith is what did it for me... lol ~Lissa
Sorry Lissa, I don't think that's shag bark. Shag bark hickory has much different bark than in your picture.
finally got around to posting some more pictures. I think i am leaning more towards silver maple to. Thanks for the help
