X2^^ The 2 year old suffered a fractured skull? Hope that doesn't progress negatively. They were guarded from certain death=blessed.
That tree should get the death penalty for attempted murder. I suggest it goes in a variety of ways. First drawn and quartered, or in rounds. Then split into 4-6" pieces and left to dry out in a stack in the yard. Finally, all pieces will be immolated at several hundred degrees in a wood stove.
It's a wonder, with the knee-jerk society we live in and all the regulation it entails, that they don't properly inspect/maintain trees in these public places. I've seen some dandy dead branches hang in up high above campsites just this past weekend at our Spring Camporee, even offered to climb and take down some precarious limbs and the organizers of the event said NO!!
I bet their parents don't take to the streets looting and rioting, claiming "they trying to off us park visiting common people"
Crazy aint it? You notice a potential problem, offer to help and get a no for an answer. They're probably in the "we'll worry about it when it happens" mentality
That is scary stuff. City trees should be inspected on a regular basis to try to prevent something like this from happening. Our city just had three 70 year old maples removed from the largest park in town that suffered storm damage. There were some limbs that were at risk of falling and the trees were next to a baseball diamond. A local tree service did the work for free in the spirit of Arbor day. They are looking to plant Valley Forge Eelms as replacements.
10 years or so ago a teen (I believe) was killed camping in a tent under a Silver Maple, 3 people in the tent and the other 2 were not injured at all.
