You got me. I added that red square in GIMP to an image I downloaded and I was thinking, it can't be linking to my computer where only I see it.

Do yo have chain? Do you have any pipe? Can you support the motor with a block back to the building's floor?

I will look and see what I have. I actually have Dad's old manual chain hoist. I wanted to put in a beam in the ceiling of the shed so I could use it. The shed's ceiling is a bit low but I think it could still come in handy. I wanted to build the shed with a higher ceiling but we had to work within a budget. At least I am not having to work outside like Dad always had to do.

Talk about working outside. This was before we got the shed built and after Dad had passed away. The starter went out on Mum's '83 Buick. We got a reman one and I crawled under the car to replace it. It started raining and the rain ran under the car and I ended up with my back in a puddle of water. So I do appreciate having a shed to work in.

I just did a quick google on transverse engine support and Home Depot has them for 60 bucks free shipping . I know 60 bucks is more than pine lumber but may make you feel better when you are underneath. At some point I believe you will be holding both the engine and trans with the support?

I didn't want to have to pull the bonnet. I was afraid that it would get away from me and hit the windscreen or something. I have to work alone.

I didn't see that you said you have a hoist. I'd think about taking the hood off or tilting it back twords the windshield and holding the eng. with the chain fall. Just my 2 pennies

Yes, I did some searches for engine supports but it is something that I probably won't use again and money is tight, I just spent another $41.20 for the seals and that was from RockAuto where I got some good buys; even with the cost of shipping as I always that that into account. Part of that was two tie rod ends since one of mine is bad; they ended up even with shipping at being around $6.00 each and they were Mogg.

Mmmm; it will tilt back? Maybe that is an idea. I don't have the ceiling support for the hoist though.

That is a good question. I will probably have a floor jack under the transmission when I start taking loose the mounts. I am going to split the sub frame; possible on this car, and remove it out of the way, to do that, the front mount of the trans will then not be holding anything. Then slide the trans back which at that point the engine will be supported above. and the trans on the floor jack. I wish my big jack was in operation. HF has a floor jack on offer.

I have held some back with a ratchet strap from the hood striker to the roof rack or all the way back to the trailer hitch.

OK. It was framed out in Frasier fir. If I had known, I would have insisted on some double beams in the middle; preferably yellow pine. I look at the cost differences between Frasier fir and yellow pine and it isn't that much of a difference.

The bonnet is not going to clear the ceiling and it will need to go almost vertical so that I have access to the engine bay. Plus, the centre of the engine is not going to fall under a beam.

Dang i see your issue now. Not sure what you have for parts stores around but a lot of the bigger chains have loan a tool programs might be worth checking into...

Just looked at some images on the interweb. Many use a single 4x4 in the centrre. I wanted to put part of the force on the strut columns instead of just all the force in an area along the fender panels. I think if I add two more 2x4s, front and back, it will support the load of the engine and be distributed at two points instead of just the one as a single 4x4 would be.

I normally go to Advance Auto for the loan a tool; there is also an AutoZone and O'Reilly here. I was worried about the axle nut; but I had a socket here that fit.
