Trailer Light Wiring fails every time I go to use it-the thin old brittle wires makes my blood boil!

It is, it's just they usually fail at the most inopportune time.

The reason I like the splice connectors is because I have 3 - 14 Guage wires to connect. One that goes to the side marker light and the other 2 which one comes from the harness connector up front and then goes down to the tail light which I do not even have to cut and strip. If they have 3 way waterproof butt connectors that might be a solution?

Twist two wires stick them in one side of the butt connector then stick the 3rd in the other side.

Any scotchlok type connector is banned in my shop...they make a very poor connection.
And any connector with heat shrink that says it's waterproof is not, unless it uses some sort of grease inside...that's the best way to handle this, a butt connector or wire nut full of silicone or dielectric grease...or, make all connections inside a watertite junction box...but NOT with scotchlok!

Those might be handy as a temporary fix, but they pinch and damage the wire. Anything that gets left outside like that is only going to last a couple years. I would never use them on anything I wanted to last

It’s difficult to get folks to understand that. That stuff is acceptable for a teenager to hook up a radio under his dash, but that’s where it should end

Only if he wants his radio to go on/off with each bump!
I really do have a long standing hatred for scotchloks...they cause nothing but grief!!

Ok, How about removing the Splice Connectors and soldering the wires with Rosin Core solder and taping them with What the Hams use called Coax-Seal and also taping the heat shrink butt connectors with Coax Seal for a complete waterproof seal?

Not familiar with that product, but if you solder then making the connection waterproof becomes a lot less important (but still desirable, especially if its a saltwater boat trailer, or is used in areas in the wintertime that salt their roads)

image.jpg If you go the solder route get some heat shrink tube. Much cheaper than the wrap.

I had to buy a set of the magnetic lights for my trailer as the lights crapped out on me this year...They are not legal on my trailer, so I guess I better get to figuring out how to fix mine!

I have a girl friend that is a HAM and she uses it on soldered Antenna wire connections and she said absolutely no moisture will get in! It is a must for HAM radio operators!
All the ham radio outlets sell it for approx $3.99 for a roll.

No you would have to cut the wire.

A cut with a proper connection made after is perfectly acceptable in my book.

Same here...the place where it gets tricky is when you have 3-4 wires coming into one connection...in my opinion/experience the only way to seal that well is silicone/dielectric grease in the connector.
